CARLA Companion Animal Right to Life Act. As Executive Director of Green Pets America Charities I am regularly asked if America’s companion animals have a right to life? Sadly, the answer is no, in America our companion animals are legally categorized as”things, and do not have a right to life.
Every year seven million companion animals [dogs and cats] are abandoned by their owners to our local animals shelters. Of that seven million four million are adopted. And the remaining three million companion animals? They are euthanized. Why because they have no legal rights. There are no laws to stop euthanizing healthy shelter animals in America. U.S law classifies companion animals in America as mere things. And legally as mere things our vibrant and alive beings are killed at will in America. Companion animals have no rights in this country.
This must change! At CARLA we are working hard to get our companion animals legally classified as “personhood” from the present category of “things”.
At Green Pets America we believe that our companion animals have a right to life, just as we humans. Studies have shown that the majority of Americans agree that it is time to change our laws on killing homeless animals and shelter animals.
We believe that our companion animals must be legally granted the classification of “Personhood”. Then wit personhood legal status they will no longer be legally killed at will in shelters.
When we pass CARLA Companion Animal Right to Life Act, setting in place the “Personhood Law” and classify them from things to personhood, then and only then will we stop killing America’s companion animals.
Please Join with green Pets America as we educate, fight and lobby for a right to life for our companion animals.
