“The streets of America are crowded with too many homeless starving animals & their owners tonight”

Animal shelter statistics show that around three and a half million dogs and the same number of cats enter shelters each year. Over half were taken there by their owners. The rest were abandoned on the streets. Sadly, half those family companion animals, about three million are euthanized.

Pet food Pantries save lives. Most owners turn in their pets because they cannot afford to feed or provide vet care for them any longer. Green Pets America was founded to save and feed animals, saving them from being abandoned to shelters, to be euthanized.

Green Pets America Charities delivers quality and wholesome pet food to families to feed and keep their beloved pets safe at home with them. We are unique in that we deliver pet meals, such as the poor, out of work, elderly, disabled, sick, mentally challenged and those without reliable transportation.

We have delivered with our own trucks and volunteers since we started. Now with Covid, we are also purchasing new bags of food and shipping pet food next day delivery by Amazon Prime. This is a costly program, but in these difficult times, it is vital and necessary.

After surviving a terminal illness Steven Monahan left a successful career as a Fortune 100 corporate executive. He was grateful for his new gift of life and vowed to spend the rest of his time caring for others. The others he chose were homeless animals and families in need.

At that time Food Pantries did not carry pet food for the people they served. As a leader and entrepreneur, he decided to start one himself. His approach and solution were unique. In addition to having a physical building for families to come by to pick up pet food for their companion animals.

Green Pets America also created the first Meals on Wheels Pet Food in-home delivery program for seniors, the disabled, the mentally and physically challenged, and the indigent without transportation.

A few years later Green Pets expanded its mission and added a death row shelter rescue group. Their focus was rescuing death row shelter dogs. They pulled shelter dogs on the kill list: the dogs that were not adopted and scheduled to be killed in three days. They rescued them from the local animal shelters, vetted them, trained them, moved them to safe foster homes, and then adopted them into loving homes.

Many of these animal shelter rescues were driven north by volunteers for adoption via the “Under-Hound Railway” as they called it, or flown north via the volunteers of “Pilots and Paws”

At Green Pets America – and our Fresh Meals 4 Pets Pantry, we know the needs of all communities for pet food for families especially in times like now.

We are sharing this uplifting article to make you aware of the critical need right now to donate to Pet Food Pantries in your community.

Norfolk SPCA Emergency Pet Pantry.jpeg

NORFOLK, Va. — NORFOLK, Va. — To help families and their pets experiencing financial hardship during the coronavirus pandemic, the Norfolk SPCA has created an Emergency Pet Pantry.

“I have two animals, and I know my heart would break if I didn’t have the means to have food for them,” Tessa Slinn, the Norfolk SPCA Communications Manager and a volunteer, said. “When you have animals who only depend on what you can provide for them, that’s scary.”

Teams of volunteers will deliver pet food to families affected financially during the COVID-19 outbreak. Pet owners who live in Norfolk and need help can also use curbside service for pet pantry pick-up.

The pantry was created on Wednesday and was only 24 hours old as of Thursday.

“We’re hoping for comfort and relief,” Kimberly Sherlaw, the Norfolk SPCA Executive Director, said. “Not only for families, but for their pets, that we can take one bit of anxiety off your shoulders right now and help you as we get through this together.”

Delivery volunteers will be wearing a Norfolk SPCA Volunteer shirt and name tag for identification. You don’t have to be present to receive food, and volunteers will not be entering homes.

“Our Emergency Pet Pantry is a temporary solution for the Norfolk community to rely on during this time of uncertainty. The Norfolk SPCA is sending a message of love and support to our city, we care about you and your pets,” said Sherlaw.

Sponsors of the Norfolk SPCA’s Emergency Pet Pantry include private donors, Care-A-Lot Pet Supply, Muddy Paws Pet Care Center, the Petco in Virginia Beach and The Dogbone.

Green Pets America Fresh Meals 4 Pets Story

green pets america charities

The Green Pets America Fresh Meals 4 Pets Story is about a man who survived a terminal illness, left the corporate world behind, and created a pet food pantry for families in need feed their beloved pets in his community.

Green Pets America Fresh Meals 4 Pets Story is not your basic “rescue the dogs” kind of nonprofit. In the day to day area that means we seek to fill in the gaps that exist in making sure there are the needed resources to keep a families pet and the family together in hard times.

Its about feeding the beloved pets of families in financial need. And its about providing  for medical care for their beloved pet. Orhelping them to find low cost or sometimes free  treatment for a dog run over by a car and  needing emergency vet care. It means finding no-cost or low-cost spay and neuter to reduce  the number of puppies abandoned, winding up in our local animal shelter.

Or providing healthy, holistic, organic pet food so no family pet goes without at least one healthy and nutritious meal a day.

The Meals Fur Pets Story

We believe dogs and cats; the animals we call our pets or companion animals, are an extension of our family. They deserve the same respect, care, nutritious food and love provided to all in our family and in our community.

The Fresh Meals 4 Pets Story for over 17 years has worked with local food pantries to ensure a family that finds themselves on hard times shouldn’t mean they give their furry companions up.  Would you give up your kids if you lost your job?

MFP helps families pay medical expenses of a loved companion animal ensure their loved one stays as healthy as possible.  A loyal and faithful companion should never be given up because they get sick, injured or hungry.

We’ve even helped honor our working K9s by providing a fenced in area as their very own “break room”.  Our police K9 is on the job protecting us 24/7 and at Green Pets America we want to help care for and celebrate these working officers, with the dignity, honor and respect they deserve.

And, we have even been recognized by the State Senate of Georgia and City Council of Woodstock for our work for Georgia’s families and pets.

With todays COV-19 Virus our Community needs have skyrocketed.

We have a lot of experience in wellness and nutrition and will be providing articles, courses, community programs and even healthy green meals for pets and families.
